Volunteers boost watershed management reach

Content

Jerry Iles, OSU South Centers Extension Educator, Watershed Management, coordinated efforts for Ohio volunteers participating in the third year of a six-state volunteer monitoring study which focuses on using E. coli as an indicator of water quality. Ohio volunteers sampled on 46 days, donating 222 hours of service toward this important study of Ohio's rivers and streams. Volunteer data included lab analysis of 74 samples as well as 444 replicate samples processed by the volunteers using two different home test kits. OSU Extension provided three trainings for the volunteers and served as a repository for all data. The project was featured in the Volunteer Monitor, a prestigious national publication.
